The name “Kardinya” is of Aboriginal origin meaning the place of the Karda (the Racehorse Goanna) although some earlier interpretations have included references to the rising sun. A large part of Kardinya used to be the Somerville Pine Plantation therefore there are many streets within the suburb named after varieties of pine trees. Kardinya contains more upwards of 45 acres of parkland which makes up approximately 11% of the total suburb area! Kardinya also is within close reach of many primary schools, North Lake Senior Campus and Murdoch University. Kardinya Park Shopping Centre is home to ACTON South Central and shops such as Coles, Kmart and many more!.
