Guildford is a heritage suburb 12 km northeast of the Perth city centre within the City of Swan and one of only two remaining towns in Perth on the National Trust register.
Guildford was founded in 1829 and was originally the centre of the Swan River Colony before Perth succeeded in being the dominant location.
The original Guildford council chambers have been converted to a library, alongside which stands the town hall, complete with the stables built for the councillors while attending meetings and as a depot for council equipment. These stables have been converted and are now the home of the Garrick Theatre, which is the oldest operating theatre group in Western Australia.
Guildford is the gateway to the extended Swan Valley region; the home of world-class wineries, breweries, distilleries, gourmet & artisanal goods, bustling markets and more.
