Walls are constructed from rendered straw bales in a traditional construction technique that evolved from the Palaeolithic Era. Straw bales were also used in house construction 400 years ago in Germany, which may have been the inspiration for this home, as some of the aged timber was sourced there.
From the time you enter the open plan living, dining and kitchen area you'll warm to the ambiance. If you're a lover of timber, it's everywhere, from floors to windows and doors and furnishings, contrasting with the neutral colour of the painted render walls (inside and out) and the vaulted, fabric ceilings.
If you were able to experience two seasons in a day you'd marvel at the thermal. cooling and noise insulating properties of the straw bale walls.
The master bedroom is BIG and has a semi-ensuite bathroom that features straw bales, visible behind the glass walls of the shower.
The wide verandahs are accessible from bedroom and living areas and overlook kangaroos in the pastures that are dotted with many 100-year-old Tuart trees. There's plenty of water available from the huge 122,000 litre rainwater tank and the high-volume bores.
There's lots of room to expand the home within the 4000m2 building envelope, but there already ample room for family and friends to stay in the big self-contained studio, adjacent to the home.
This is country living at its best - right on the City's doorstep.
There's a large powered workshop and much of the plant and equipment can be negotiated with the current owner.
Escape the City and watch the land value appreciation of this special property, once the market turns - if you can bring yourself to sell after enjoying this lifestyle.
